Fake Agency Probe: Nwabueze Publishes Appointment Letter, Other Documents in His Defence

Amid the controversy over the alleged operation of a fake government agency within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Mr. George Buchi Nwabueze has released a series of documents on LinkedIn which he says support the existence and official status of the Made in Nigeria Project Office.

One of the documents is a purported appointment letter dated October 3, 2025, bearing the OSGF letterhead and signed by Engr. Nadungu Gagare, then Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs Office.

The letter appointed Nwabueze as National Coordinator/Executive Director of the Made in Nigeria Project Office for a five-year renewable tenure beginning from July 2025.

It listed his responsibilities as supervising programmes, projects and policies, coordinating regional and state coordinators and organising exhibitions, trade expos and economic summits to promote Nigerian-made products and services.

Nwabueze also released an April 17, 2025 document signed by the same Permanent Secretary, which proposed that the Made in Nigeria Project be granted “Special Project” status under the OSGF.

The document invited the SGF to note and consider approving the establishment of a five-member technical committee to develop the project’s objectives, implementation framework, funding arrangements, monitoring structure and other operational details.

In another document titled “History and Facts, Made in Nigeria,” Nwabueze claimed the initiative dates back to June 15, 2010, and said it had operated within the OSGF for years, promoting Nigerian-made products, organising economic forums and trade exhibitions, and supporting local production.

The documents were released after President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered Nwabueze’s arrest over allegations that he was involved in the operation of a fake government agency within the SGF’s office.

The President also ordered the suspension of three permanent secretaries following findings by the ICPC. ICPC Chairman Musa Aliyu said the discovery emerged from a wider investigation into the alleged fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) and other weaknesses in government procedures.

With the release of the documents, Nwabueze appears to be presenting what he says is documentary evidence that the Made in Nigeria Project was not a recently created or unofficial operation, but a project that had received consideration within the OSGF.

The authenticity, status and circumstances surrounding the documents remain central to the ongoing controversy.
