From Struggle to Success: The Rise of Mma Tangsio

A year ago, they laughed at her. Today, they lined up to shake her hand.

Jennifer Inyang popularly known as Mma Tangsio, had her name trend online once for a painful reason; she had cried out for help, and the internet responded with mockery instead of mercy. Today, that same community gathered to celebrate her, as the story of her turnaround reached a new milestone: the official opening of her own bushmeat relaxation joint, located at Pepsi Junction, by Idoro, Ediene Ikot Obio, Uyo.

Mma Tangsio, known for her content creation and her business acumen, has spent the past twelve months quietly proving her critics wrong. She didn’t disappear after the donations came in. She didn’t flaunt the money. Instead, she went to work, saving, building, and now, launching a permanent business location of her own.

Central to her turnaround was the intervention of Oga Yenne, a well-known figure in the Akwa Ibom charity crowdfunding space. When Mma Tangsio’s appeal for help first surfaced, amid public ridicule and accusations of laziness, it was Oga Yenne’s platform that stepped in to organize and channel support her way. Rather than letting her plea get lost in online noise or scepticism, Oga Yenne used his reach to mobilize well-wishers, verify her situation, and coordinate the donations that would become her turning point. Among the contributions was a standout gift of 1 million Naira from an anonymous donor who gave specifically through Oga Yenne’s platform, a gesture he says still moves him when he looks at how far she’s come.

Oga Yenne has been candid about why this case felt different from others. Over the years, he has raised millions of Naira for people in need, only to watch much of it evaporate within months, businesses collapsing, funds mismanaged, beneficiaries returning to ask for more. That pattern taught him a hard lesson: money given to someone who has never learned to manage smaller amounts rarely survives contact with hardship. Mma Tangsio, he says, was the exception — a dedicated saver who resisted the pressure to spend on appearances and reinvested instead in her craft and her future.

That future came fully into view at today’s grand opening. As part of the fanfare, her husband, affectionately known as Ebe Mma Tangsio, took the microphone to award her the title of “Most Helpful, Hardworking Wife in the World,” declaring publicly that she is the reason he is happy today. It was a moment that drew loud cheers from the crowd, a fitting tribute to a woman who has weathered public scorn and turned it into public celebration.

The event attracted notable faces from across Akwa Ibom’s entertainment and social scene. Guests included two aides to the state governor on entertainment matters, Mr. David Sergeant, popularly known as Utang Akwa Ibom, and Ms. Afia Mary-mag. Also in attendance were members of the Akwa Ibom Content Creators Association, including EKPE SPORT, Comedian Mouthpiece, and Emy’s Beauty Concepts, among others who came out to support one of their own.

Oga Yenne, who was invited to the event but could not attend in person, sent his congratulations from afar, promising to visit her someday to celebrate properly.

Because in the end, this is what happens when help lands in the right hands: mockery turns to admiration, a cry for help turns into a business with her name on the door — and a woman once told to be ashamed now stands as proof of what patience, discipline, and one well-placed act of kindness can build.
