Obong Prof. Engr. Moses Edem Akpubak Emerges NSE Fellow, Caps 33-Year Engineering Career

Obong Prof. Engr. Moses Edem Akpubak has been conferred with the Fellowship of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), adding a major professional distinction to a career spanning more than 33 years in engineering and Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

Akpubak received the prestigious professional recognition at the 2026 Third Quarter Dinner and Conferment of Fellowship of the NSE, held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Radisson Blu Hotel, 38–40 Isaac John Street, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

The conferment recognises a career in which Akpubak has held various technical, operational and managerial positions with Mobil, ExxonMobil and Seplat Energy.

His engineering journey began at The Polytechnic, Calabar, where he obtained an HND in Mechanical Engineering in 1991. He later earned a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Uyo in 2008.

His professional development has included programmes in leadership, management, operations, process safety and engineering at institutions and training centres in Nigeria, the United States and Europe, including Lagos Business School.

Akpubak is a COREN-registered engineer and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigeria Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

At the Qua Iboe Terminal (QIT), Eket, he served in several capacities, including Team Lead and Supervisor, Crude Oil Treating Plant; Supervisor, Crude and Condensate Exports Movement; Technical Training Coordinator; and Acting Crude Oil and Gas Exports Terminal Superintendent.

He also served as Offshore Installation Manager and Manager, Offshore Installation, at the Etim Crude Oil and Gas Production Offshore Facility, Eket.

His professional experience includes participation in projects such as the Emulsion Water Treating System Project, QIT Power Upgrade and QIT Storage Tank Upgrade Project.

Beyond operations, Akpubak has contributed to training and human-capacity development. According to his NSE citation, he trained about 7,000 employees and contractors, both expatriates and nationals, under the ExxonMobil Safe Choice Programme between 2019 and 2020.

The citation also highlights his involvement in professional ethics, quality and safety management, community leadership and humanitarian activities.

Alongside the NSE recognition, his recently stated academic record includes Ph.D. qualifications in Mechanical Engineering and Leadership Management; an M.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering; an M.Sc. in Policy and Leadership Management; a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering; an HND in Mechanical Engineering; and an OND in Mechanical Engineering. He has also announced a Professorial Appointment and Professorial Research Fellowship in Engineering.

These academic milestones provide additional context to a professional journey that has remained firmly rooted in engineering practice, industry leadership and service.

With his conferment as a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Akpubak adds another significant chapter to more than three decades of engineering practice and professional service.
