Security Supervisor arrested over alleged phone theft at Zenith Bank
The Supervisor for Internal Security in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, Mr. Idara Martins Okure, is reportedly in police custody over allegations of stealing two mobile phones belonging to a customer at a Zenith Bank branch along Oron Road, Uyo.
According to information gathered, the incident occurred after the owner of the phones, a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and a Tecno Camon 30S temporarily left his seat to repark his vehicle at the request of bank officials. Believing the banking hall was secure, he left both phones on his seat. However, upon returning, he discovered that the devices were missing. It was also observed that the man who had been seated beside him, identified as Mr. Idara Martins, had left the premises.
The bank’s management reportedly responded immediately by locking down the premises after suspecting that the alleged suspect was still inside the building. However, it was later discovered that he had already exited the bank.
The victim subsequently reported the incident to the police, who commenced an investigation. Through digital tracking, investigators reportedly traced one of the stolen phones.
Police investigations further revealed that the Tecno Camon 30S had allegedly been sold for ₦100,000 to one Mr. Ubong Udofot, who later gave the device to his son as a gift. The phone was eventually tracked to the son, leading to his arrest.
During questioning, the young man reportedly informed investigators that the phone had been given to him by his father. Mr. Udofot was thereafter invited and arrested by the police. He allegedly stated that he had purchased the phone from Mr. Idara Martins and subsequently assisted investigators in locating him.
Mr. Martins, who serves as Supervisor for Internal Security in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, confessed that he committed the crime and is currently in police custody while investigations continue. Authorities are expected to conclude their inquiries before deciding on the next legal steps.
