Uduak Ikot Reaffirms Commitment to Inclusive Governance, Prosperous Esit Eket

The Executive Chairman of Esit Eket Local Government Area, Hon. Uduak Ikemesit Ikot, has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, human capital development and the socio-economic transformation of the area.

Ikot stated this on Thursday, while receiving the leadership of the Eket Federal Constituency Media Professionals (EFCMP), led by its Chairman, Comrade Enobong Nsima, during a courtesy visit and inspection of projects executed by her administration.
She said her administration had constituted 167-member committees, including peace and conflict resolution, security and sanitation committees, with 37 media professionals engaged to strengthen communication and inclusiveness.

The council boss highlighted key interventions in education, agriculture, youth empowerment and social welfare, including the ongoing rehabilitation of the council secretariat and Uquo Market, provision of Compassionate Homes, support for farmers, skills acquisition grants and the establishment of a fully equipped ICT hub.

She disclosed that Uquo Market, comprising 400 open stalls and 50 lock-up shops, was undergoing roofing and landscaping, while the council is providing monthly financial assistance of between N6 million and N7 million to indigent residents. She also disclosed plans for more Compassionate Homes in 2027, stressing her administration’s determination to improve the lives of vulnerable residents.

Earlier, EFCMP Chairman, Comrade Enobong Nsima, commended Ikot for what he described as a significant change in the governance narrative of Esit Eket, particularly her inclusion of media professionals in her administration. He pledged the forum’s partnership with the council and appealed for sponsorship for at least four members to obtain professional certification at the International Institute of Journalism.

In his goodwill message, the pioneer EFCMP Chairman and Personal Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Comrade Jerryz Edoho, Unwana Assam and Peace Etop, commended Ikot’s inclusive leadership and visible development initiatives, describing the council boss as a compassionate mother and dedicated leader.

Ikot, in response, thanked Governor Umo Eno, for inclusive leadership template and giving women the opportunity to take leadership responsibility. She pledged her support for the media and urged journalists to provide constructive criticism that would promote good governance and development.

In his vote of thanks, Comrade Edet Edet, a member of the EFCMP Board of Trustees, commended the chairman for carrying the media along, while the Council Secretary, Mr Godwin Elijah, thanked the media professionals for the visit and assured them of the council’s continued support.
