Uniport confers Doctorate Degree on Sir Victor Antai

Port Harcourt, Nigeria- The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Rivers State, yesterday conferred a Doctor of Philosophy (PHD) degree in Transport and Logistics Management on Sir Victor Antai, KJW, PHD, the Executive Director, Projects, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The conferment took place at the Chief Barr Nyesom Wike Convocation Arena as part of the university’s 35th Combined Convocation Ceremony, which also marked its 50th Anniversary. The event brought together a diverse group of dignitaries, academic scholars, and guests from across the country to celebrate excellence and academic achievement.

Sir Victor Antai , a distinguished public servant and scholar, expressed deep gratitude to the University of Port Harcourt for the honour. Known for his notable contributions to regional development and public administration, his academic pursuit in Transport and Logistics Management underscores his commitment to sustainable growth, especially within the Niger Delta region.

In his personal remarks following the conferment, Sir Victor Antai dedicated the doctorate degree to God and to his boss and benefactor:

“My doctorate degree is hereby dedicated to our Lord JESUS CHRIST and to His Excellency, Dist. Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, the President of the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

As is always his tradition, following the conferment, he headed straight to the altar of God, The Methodist Church Nigeria, Aggrey Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to express heartfelt gratitude to the Lord for making the achievement possible.

The Resident Archbishop, His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Effiong Esedeke reaffirmed his continued belief in God’s faithfulness and offered prayers for Sir Victor Antai and his family, asking for God’s protection and greater upliftment in his career and public service.

The convocation ceremony is a testament to UNIPORT’s longstanding tradition of rewarding academic excellence and honouring individuals who have contributed meaningfully to society through leadership, service, and knowledge.

Other recipients of honorary doctorate degrees during the ceremony included Nigeria’s First Lady, SEN. OLUREMI TINUBU, CON ; Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State; Aminu Masari, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund); and Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike – CON, GSSRS, Minister of FCT.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Owunari Georgewill, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and national development, especially as it celebrates five decades of impactful service.

The convocation festivities continue throughout the weekend with exhibitions, lectures, and alumni reunions, celebrating UNIPORT’s legacy and future aspirations.
