Capt. Willie Mbong emerges as 10th President General of Afigh Iwaad Ekid

Capt. Willie Okon Mbong has emerged as the 10th President General of Afigh Iwaad Ekid, following a keenly contested election that produced a new 20-member Executive Council for the foremost socio-cultural youth organization in Ekid Nation.

The election, which took place on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Animeks Event Center, Eket, came on the heels of a recent court ruling that resolved the leadership tussle within the organization and mandated Eket stakeholders to constitute an electoral committee to conduct the exercise in line with Afigh Iwaad Ekid’s constitution.

Announcing the results, the Chairman of Afigh Electoral Committee (AFECOM), Iwaad Joseph Koffi, declared Capt. Mbong winner after polling 78 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bar. Ephraim Enembong, who secured 62 votes.

Nineteen other executive members were also elected to form the 10th Executive Council of the organization. The newly elected officials were sworn in immediately after the declaration of results.

In his acceptance speech, Capt. Mbong expressed gratitude to God for the peaceful and credible conduct of the election and thanked all stakeholders who contributed to its success. He particularly appreciated the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD; the Chair of the Stakeholders Forum, Dr. Samuel Udonsak; and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong, for their guidance and support.

Extending an olive branch to other aspirants, Capt. Mbong called for unity and collaboration in advancing his administration’s vision anchored on unity, revitalization, and restoration. He pledged to uphold the ideals of Afigh Iwaad Ekid and strengthen its role in fostering development within Ekid Nation.

In their goodwill messages, Dr. Udonsak, Obongiwaad Isaiah Abia, and Bar. Dan Abia (Jnr) commended AFECOM for conducting a transparent and credible election and charged the new leadership to embrace reconciliation and sustain the organization’s legacy of peace and progress.

Similarly, Hon. Frank Archibong, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, while receiving the newly elected executives in his home residence at Ikot Ibiok village, immediately after the swearing-in, congratulated and urged them to rebuild the organization, reconcile all aggrieved parties, and drive the development agenda of Afigh Iwaad Ekid across Ekid communities.
