Gov Eno Condoles with Ex Gov Emmanuel, others on demise of Elder Ukpong
The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD has mourned with the immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, on the demise of his cousin Late Elder Ukpong Ekwere Ukpong who passed at the age of 73.
Governor Eno has also condoled with the wife and children of the departed through a message delivered on his behalf by the Deputy Governor, Senator (Dr) Akon Eyakenyi, Saturday at a funeral service held at Awa Iman, ONNA Local Government Area.
He maintained that the death of a loved one, especially a loving father, creates a deep vacuum, leaving a feeling of anguish and emotional trauma that may be difficult to bear, stressing that they are not alone in their trying moment.
”The government and the entire Akwa Ibom State are solidly behind you. We all feel your pain and grief at this moment of your bereavement.
“As difficult as this moment may be in your life and that of your entire family, l urge you to take consolation in the knowledge that he was a good and loving father in every sense of the word.”
He urged them to take solace in the fact that their late father was a great man who lived an impactful life and has witnessed his children grow and flourish in their respective professions, thereby adding value to humanity.
The Governor emphasized that the late Elder Ukpong Ekwere Ukpong was a man of deep faith and sound Christian virtues deeply expressed in all his engagements as attested to by the Church, family and other people who interacted with him during his sojourn on earth.
“As we bid him farewell today, I urge you and all your siblings to continue to follow his part of moral rectitude, love and the kindness he wore as badges of honour while he was with us.”
The Governor prayed the Almighty God to grant the immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel and the entire bereaved family the fortitude to bear the loss.
The immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, CON, accompanied by his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Martha Emmanuel, urged the congregants to emulate the sterling qualities and values of the late Elder Ukpong Ekwere Ukpong.
“As a professional in his chosen field of practice, a family member and an elder in the church, he stood out for his sense of dedication to duty, loyalty to family and commitment to worthy causes.
“To his children, he was a father in every true sense of the word. To the extended family, he was a pillar. And to me, he was a relative who by his counsel, example and strength of character, became an integral part of my life’s journey.
“His life is a reminder that greatness is not always accompanied by noise or applause; sometimes it is revealed in quiet consistency, sacrificial service, and in kind humility that allows others to flourish.
“For me, his life is both a personal blessing and a call to responsibility; to continue living with integrity, serving with humility, and recognizing that true impact is often made in quiet, steady ways.”
“May his memory continue to challenge us to stand firm in our convictions, to lead with quiet dignity, and to remain faithful in service until the very end.”
Reading from Acts 2:36-40, Rev. U. B. Akpan, the Mbioto/Mkpat Enin Area Conference Chairman of the United Evangelical Church, UEC, preached on the topic “Safe yourself from this corrupt generation” where he decried the high level of corruption in the society, and urged the congregants to lead a Christlike life.
He warned against vices which are detrimental to growth and development.
On how to live in the corrupt generation, the man of God recommended that one should count oneself dead to sin, study the word of God, pray, and associate with good friends.
The obsequies conducted by the United Evangelical Church (founded as Qua Iboe Church), Awa Iman, Ikot Idem Udo Superintendency, Mbioto -Mkpat Enin Area Conference in conjunction with Caleb’s Camp, Mbiabong Etoi Superintendency, Uyo Area Conference, featured song ministrations by various choirs and prayers for the bereaved family.
In attendance were ministers of God, the political class, the judiciary, sympathizers and well-wishers who in their numbers eulogized the departed Elder.
