Ibeno, famous for its shoreline, overlooking the Atlantic ocean, has the longest sand beach in West Africa.

Arguably the most beautiful tourist site in Akwa Ibom at present, the beach is a natural resort for fund seekers and water sports lovers.

With headquarters in Upenekang, Ibeno has a strategic place in the economy of Akwa Ibom State, as it is host to major oil and gas companies, especially, Seplat.

Beyond oil exploration, fishing and small-scale trading also thrives there.

The area is also home to people with a rich cultural heritage whose local festivals, dance, and folklore are outstanding.

Like every oil producing area, Ibeno faces the challenges of environmental issues from oil activities like pollution and coastal erosion.

Governor Umo Eno in Ibeno

Governor Umo Eno’s policy for the development of every part of the state is hinged on his rural transformation drive, which seeks to make every local government area feel the impact of governance, through, at any point, one project or the other.

In this wise, Ibeno has benefitted from the one per Local Government Area project initiative, through a model primary school under construction. Like every other model school in the state, facilities include fully furnished classrooms, solar powered electricity, an assembly hall and an ICT laboratory.

There are also two road projects ongoing in the community. They are the 2.0km Chief Ikpong Etteh Road with spurs and the 1km Spring Road with
spurs, and a 0.55km Discharge Drain.

A compassionate Governor Eno has also touched lives in Ibeno. 6 ARISE compassionate homes have been built, including that of Etop James Inyang. On the day of the handing over of the house to Inyang, commercial activities around Iwuochang Market was brought to a standstill, as people trooped out to share the joy of the moment with the beneficiary.

The Governor handed over the fully furnished home with solar powered lighting and borehole installation and also presented N500,000 as business grant to Inyang to help set up a small business that will support the family.

Inyang, alongside other members of the family, marveled at their new realities, were full of gratitude to the Governor for the gesture, and prayed for God’s blessings upon him.

Governor Eno who has done business in Ibeno long before he became Governor, has given appointments to Ibeno sons and daughters including the State Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Development, Elder Ikoedem Ekong.

Ibeno people who have retired from the civil service have benefitted from gratuities and pensions while those still serving earn salaries which are paid regularly. Students from the area also enjoy bursaries while pupils in public schools attend schools tuition Ibeno sons and daughters have also benefited from training at the Ibom Leadership and Entrepreneurship Centre and the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre.

At the recent Town Square meeting the Governor had with people of Eket/ONNA/Esit Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency, Ibeno people were part of the 1,000 empowered with N401m worth of farming, trading and equipment support grants. 2 indigenes had N5m each while 3 others received cars and minibuses.

The Member representing the area in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, says the Governor’s inclusive posture reflects a deep understanding of governance as a tool for collective advancement.
