Obongiwaad Willie Mbong Rallies Afigh Iwaad Ekid for Unity, Progress and Cultural Rebirth
– Declares December 20, 2025, as Eket Day Festival
In a move to restore harmony and reposition Afigh Iwaad Ekid as the true voice of Ekid Nation, the 10th President General of the organization, Obongiwaad (Capt.) Willie Mbong, has made a passionate call for unity among members, urging all to put aside differences and work together for peace, progress, and the greater good of the Ekid people.
Speaking during the first enlarged general meeting of Afigh Iwaad Ekid on Sunday, 9th November, 2025, at Eket Local Government Council Hall; the first since his assumption of office, Obongiwaad Mbong stressed that the era of division was over.
“The election is over; governance has begun. There is no longer any faction in Afigh Iwaad Ekid. We are one body, one voice, and one purpose to advance the cause of the Ekid Nation,” he declared.
The President General assured members that his administration would run an all-inclusive government anchored on consultation, transparency, and accountability.
He noted that Afigh Iwaad Ekid, under his leadership, will reclaim its pride of place as a leading socio-cultural organization in Akwa Ibom State and beyond.
“We have set clear priorities that will redefine Afigh Iwaad Ekid and surpass expectations. Our focus is to build an institution that commands respect, inspires unity, and champions the collective aspirations of the Ekid people,” Mbong added.
The President General also declared December 20, 2025, as Eket Day Festival, describing it as a week-long cultural event that will celebrate the rich heritage, unity, and resilience of the Ekid people. He also inaugurated the Central Planning Committee to oversee the successful hosting of the historic event.
In their separate goodwill messages, members of the Afigh Iwaad Ekid Advisory Council, including Obongiwaad Isaiah Abia, Obongiwaad Emman Mbong, and Obongiwaad Usoro Paulinus, commended the new leadership for its reconciliatory tone and urged all members to embrace peace and cooperation.
They further advised the executive to strengthen engagement with government institutions, multinational corporations, and other partners to foster development and position Afigh Iwaad Ekid as a credible platform for advocacy and socio-cultural advancement.
With renewed vigor and a unifying vision, Afigh Iwaad Ekid under the leadership of Obongiwaad (Capt.) Willie Mbong appears set to usher in a new era of unity, cultural renaissance, and purposeful leadership for Ekid Nation.
Highlight of the event was the official handing over by the 9th Executive Council of Afigh Iwaad Ekid, marking a symbolic transition of leadership and responsibility to the 10th Executive Council under Obongiwaad (Capt.) Willie Mbong.
