Over 5,000 Constituents Enter for Senator Ekong Sampson’s Forthcoming Empowerment

More than 5,000 constituents of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District have registered for the forthcoming tranche of Senator Ekong Sampson Empowerment Programme.

The registration exercise, which began over a month ago, officially closed on August 20, 2025, after recording massive participation across the Senatorial District in the three categories of Students, Business, and Training.

Beneficiaries will be selected based on a comprehensive NEEDS ASSESSMENT process to ensure transparency and fairness. This approach, the committee explained, is designed to identify genuine cases, thereby guaranteeing that the programme delivers meaningful impact to benefitting individuals and communities across the district.

Senator Ekong Sampson, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals, has consistently reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare of the people of Akwa Ibom South, by using empowerment to drive socio-economic and human capital development.

Recall that within his first six months in office, specifically on January 24th, 2024, Senator Sampson had put together his first major empowerment briefing where more than 1,000 constituents benefitted from cars, equipment, business support grants, scholarships, medical assistance, and numerous cash gifts.

Beyond his senatorial mandate, the longstanding Ekong Sampson Empowerment Programme (ESEP), established in 2004, has impacted lives for nearly two decades, with a number of life changing interventions through business grants, scholarship and employments.

Building on that legacy, the forthcoming Phase II of his empowerment/briefing series promises to accommodate ever a larger canvas of beneficiaries. The Empowerment Committee, chaired by Hon. Ini Ikott, a former State Lawmaker, revealed recently that this phase will feature an increased number of items and a wider range of opportunities.

In an official update announcing the end of online registrations for the empowerment, Barr. Ikott, and Engr. Benedict Edenseting, Secretary of the Committee, expressed appreciation to constituents for their interest and assured of a credible and transparent process. They announced that details of the next line of action on the empowerment will be communicated, accordingly.
