SSG Prince Uwah Receives former University Teacher with Touching Tribute
The Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, today played host to his former University lecturer and immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Uyo, Prof. Joseph Akawu Ushie, in his office at Government House, Uyo.
Receiving his guest, Prince Uwah, visibly moved, described Prof. Ushie as his “first and favourite University lecturer,” whose teaching, mentorship, and personal example helped shape his intellectual foundation and nurtured his passion for excellence.
He maintained that teachers remain some of the greatest builders of society, stressing that his own story would be incomplete without the selfless investment of dedicated educators like Prof. Ushie. “This is my Teacher! The man who taught me, mentored me, and inspired me to believe in the power of knowledge. Seeing him here today is an honour and a blessing. Prof. Ushie, please take your flowers, Sir. Thank you for the impact you made on my life.” The Secretary to the State Government said.
In his remarks, Prof. Ushie, a distinguished scholar and respected academic, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and commended his former student for the humility and excellence with which he continues to discharge his duties in service to Akwa Ibom State. He praised Prince Uwah for remaining true to the values of integrity, discipline, and service, which he described as the hallmarks of true leadership.
Reflecting on the occasion, Prof. Ushie remarked that the joy of every teacher is in seeing his students rise to positions of responsibility and distinction in society. “Moments like these reassure teachers that their labour is never in vain, and that the seeds sown in the classroom can blossom into great leadership and service to humanity,” he noted.
The visit was not only a reunion but also a celebration of the enduring bond between teacher and student, underscoring the timeless impact of mentorship on leadership and public service.
