UNIUYO Alumni Exco meet Vice Chancellor, Management

Assure Stronger Partnership with University Management

The 6th President of the University of Uyo Alumni Association, Mr. Ekerete Adiaiduo, has reaffirmed the association’s resolve to deepen its collaboration with the University administration and to strengthen lifelong bonds among graduates.

Adiaiduo gave the assurance on Thursday, August 28, 2025, when he led the newly elected National Executive Council of the Alumni Association on a familiarisation and courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Nyaudo Ndaeyo, at the University’s main campus.

Speaking with a tone of gratitude and responsibility, Adiaiduo declared: “It is with immense gratitude and a profound sense of responsibility that I stand before you as the 6th Alumni President of our Alma Mater, the great University of Uyo. On behalf of the entire Executive Council, I extend our heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to serve and strengthen the bond between the University and its dedicated Alumni.”

Introducing members of his new team, Adiaiduo emphasized that the Council reflected a diversity of talents and a unified commitment to propelling the Alumni Association to greater heights. He explained that the executive had already drawn up a five-year strategic plan with programmes designed to deepen alumni engagement, support the University’s mission, and foster enduring connections. According to him, the association would prioritize mentorship and career development to connect recent graduates with experienced professionals; organize campus-based, state, and regional networking events to strengthen alumni ties; embark on alumni-led community service projects to give back to society; and collaborate closely with the University administration on research, infrastructural development, and fundraising campaigns to support institutional advancement.

Reflecting on the atmosphere that brought his leadership to power, Adiaiduo remarked that the recent elections had reawakened alumni consciousness across the nation:

“We strongly believe that the 6th Exco of our Alumni Association is destined to achieve greater heights when one takes into consideration the fervor, passion and frenetic activities generated by the election that birthed this Exco. It was the most keenly contested Alumni election ever witnessed in the University community. It also awakened the Alumni spirit towards deeper engagement. Notably, this renaissance owes a lot to your own emergence, Vice Chancellor, as the first Alumnus of the University of Uyo to occupy this exalted office.”

One of the major interventions the new alumni leadership has already undertaken is the long-standing problem of delays in the issuance of transcripts, an issue that has attracted criticism over the years.

“We wish to inform the Vice-Chancellor that this Exco, at her inaugural meeting, unanimously agreed to intervene in the nagging issue of delays in the issuance of result transcripts from the University’s Exams and Records Unit. This trend had attracted negative publicity to the University. We had an interaction with the Head and staff of the unit and provided immediate motivational and tooling inputs to facilitate the quick processing of a backlog of 300 transcript requests. We are happy to announce that more than half of that backlog has been processed and will soon reach the awaiting hands of the recipients,” Adiaiduo revealed.

He added that the Alumni Association recognized the invaluable role of the University administration in ensuring the success of such initiatives and expressed optimism about forging “a dynamic, mutually supportive partnership” with management.

“Our Exco is eager to cultivate a partnership with you and your team, ensuring that our efforts directly contribute to the continued prestige and progress of our Alma Mater. We look forward to your guidance and collaboration as we embark on this exhilarating journey,” he concluded.

In his response, Vice Chancellor Professor Nyaudo Ndaeyo lauded the association for its proactive stance and assured them of the management’s readiness to work hand in hand with alumni to enhance both student welfare and the image of the institution.

He praised the keenly contested elections that brought the new leadership to office, commending the alumni for their dedication to the University’s growth. Ndaeyo described the alumni as “critical stakeholders in the University’s trajectory” and called for sustained synergy to advance UNIUYO’s mission and vision.

The meeting was well attended by senior University officials, including Prof. Aniekan Offiong, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration); Prof. Anthonia Udoh, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic); and Mrs. Blossom Okorie, Registrar, among others.

On the side of the Alumni Executive Council were: Mr. Barry Eka, Deputy National President; Mr. Fioyo Umoren, Secretary General; Mr. Samuel Ukut, Assistant Secretary General; Rt. Hon. Uwem Udoma, South-South Zonal Vice President; Mr. Thomas Thomas, National Publicity Secretary; Oto-Obong Billy, Assistant National Publicity Secretary; Dr. Eka Ukpe, National Treasurer; Mr. Nsikak Tom, Financial Secretary; Surv. Akanimo Udom, National Director of Organisation; Mr. Samuel Etuk Esq., Assistant Legal Adviser; and Mr. Ita Ekpenyong, Auditor.
