BCECHST Seeks Support to Train Indigent Youths in Healthcare
The Bishop Camillus Etokudoh College of Health Sciences and Technology (BCECHST) has called on the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Youth Development to sponsor indigent youths for professional healthcare training, describing the move as vital to saving lives and improving community health services.
Provost of the college, Rev. Fr. Primus Umoh, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerette Ekanem, in his office. He cited financial constraints, socio-economic challenges, and limited access to education as major obstacles, stressing that academic sponsorship could be a “game-changer” for sustainable development, quality healthcare delivery, and the reduction of preventable deaths and disease transmission.
Fr. Umoh specifically urged the Commissioner, himself a former Medical Superintendent of the college, to support the training of qualified youths from his local government area as Community Health Extension Workers, Pharmacy Technicians, and Medical Laboratory Technicians.
Responding, Dr. Ekanem commended the college’s efforts, reaffirmed the importance of healthcare services, and assured the delegation of his support.
The Catholic Priest made an artistic work presentation to the commissioner in appreciation of his numerous humanitarian services.
