Hon. Aniekan Akpan Declares for Eket State Assembly Seat, Promises Quality Representation
Former Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Hon. Aniekan Akpan, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Eket State Constituency seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hon. Akpan made the declaration in a statement released to the public after what he described as extensive consultations, reflections, and prayers with stakeholders and supporters across the constituency.
The former council chairman said his aspiration is driven by a sincere commitment to service, effective representation, and the need to reconnect the people with government.
According to him, many residents of Eket State Constituency currently feel disconnected from governance due to what he described as weak representation and the absence of regular communication between elected officials and the people.
He raised concerns over the lack of constituency briefings, reports on legislative achievements, and the absence of a functional constituency office where citizens can seek assistance and engage with their representative.
Hon. Akpan noted that while Governor Umo Eno continues to deliver development projects across Akwa Ibom State, the impact in Eket is often reduced because community concerns are not adequately communicated and pursued through effective representation.
Speaking on the forthcoming APC primaries, the former local government chairman commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio for supporting direct primaries, describing the process as a major step toward strengthening internal democracy and giving party members greater participation in candidate selection.
He also called for neutrality, fairness, and transparency among party leaders and stakeholders during the primary process.
The APC aspirant acknowledged the leadership efforts of the Executive Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Mr. Akaniyene Tommey, while expressing concerns over the alleged use of public facilities for partisan political activities, insisting that public assets should remain neutral and serve the interests of all citizens.
Hon. Akpan pledged that if elected, he would provide inclusive representation across all wards and zones of the constituency, establish accountability and openness in governance, and ensure that constituency resources are used strictly for the welfare of the people.
He maintained that legislative representation requires experience, competence, and a clear developmental vision, stressing that his ambition is not borne out of malice against any individual but from a genuine desire to restore dignity, fairness, and effective representation in Eket State Constituency.
His declaration has further heightened political activities within the constituency ahead of the APC primaries and the 2027 general elections.
