Association of Nigerian Authors Honours Senator Ekong Sampson for ‘Outstanding Commitment to Literature and Literary Arts’
The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, has announced its honour for Senator Ekong Sampson in recognition of the distinguished lawmaker’s outstanding commitment to literature and the literary arts.
The association disclosed that Senator Sampson, representing Akwa Ibom South in the National Assembly, will be conferred with the prestigious Distinguished Fellow of Arts award in acknowledgement of his enduring contributions to literary development, intellectual engagement and the promotion of reading culture.
The award was conveyed in a letter from ANA, Ibom State Chapter, to Senator Sampson. According to the association, the conferment ceremony is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the Civil Service Auditorium, Uyo.
Poet-Senator Ekong Sampson has built an impressive reputation as a man of letters whose literary works have continued to attract admiration within and beyond Nigeria’s literary community.
Sampson’s publications, including several notable biographies of eminent figures in Nigeria’s legal profession, have earned widespread acclaim for their depth, historical value and elegant storytelling.
His poetry anthology has equally received critical praise for its richness of thought, philosophical reflections and artistic craftsmanship, further cementing his place within the literary community.
also serves as the Patron of the Uyo Book Club, one of Nigeria’s leading intellectual and literary hubs. Through the platform and other initiatives, he has consistently championed reading, scholarship, creative writing and intellectual discourse, especially among young people.
Over the years, he has remained a strong advocate for education and learning using both his public office and personal influence to encourage a culture of knowledge-sharing and excellence.
The Association of Nigerian Authors, founded in 1981 by the late literary icon, Chinua Achebe, is Nigeria’s foremost body of creative writers dedicated to the promotion of literature, creative expression and literary excellence.
The July 29 conferment is expected to attract writers, readers, academics, literary enthusiasts, public officials and other distinguished guests who will gather to celebrate Senator Sampson’s contribution to the advancement of literary arts.
