IBENO COUNCIL CHAIRMAN RECEIVES EKET FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY MEDIA TEAM, HIGHLIGHTS DEVELOPMENT STRIDES

The Executive Chairman of Ibeno Local Government Area, Hon. Dcns. Glory Ekah Effiong, has received members of the Eket Federal Constituency Media Team on a courtesy and fact finding visit to the area, describing the engagement as an important opportunity for transparency, accountability and constructive stakeholder interaction.

The visit, led by the Chairman of the Media Team, Mr. Enobong Nsimah, and accompanied by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Essien Ndueso, provided the team with an opportunity to assess the administration’s performance and gain firsthand insight into the projects, programmes and interventions being implemented across Ibeno.

During the visit, the team inspected several projects initiated, ongoing and completed under the present administration, including the ongoing construction of the state of the art two storey Council Secretariat, 400 capacity ICT/JAMB Centre, ARISE Compassionate Home at Okoroutip, Patience Umo Eno Health Centre at Iwokpom, Mega 1 Year in Office Anniversary Empowerment Programme, complete renovation of Ibeno Motor Park, construction and rehabilitation of the Security Village and perimeter fence, as well as the renovation of Upenekang Polyclinic, Security House and perimeter fence.

The team also inspected the rehabilitation of the transformer and restoration of electricity at Upenekang, provision of additional medical equipment to Upenekang Polyclinic, multi million naira grants to market women and young entrepreneurs, training of 20 youths at the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre, safety training for Ibeno youths, distribution of educational materials to pupils and students, bursary payments and grants, and provision of clean solar powered borehole water at Ibeno Market.

Other projects and interventions inspected included the grading of Etim Street, Ekah’s Crescent and Global Mission Road; installation of solar lights at the Council premises and Security Village; renovation of toilet facilities at Ibeno Market; renovation of buildings affected by the 2024 fire disaster at Iwuoachang; provision of official vehicles to the Leader of the Legislature and Secretary of Council; provision of an official vehicle to the Chairman of the Ibeno Youth Presidents Forum; monthly subvention to security operatives; and regular payment of monthly stipends to traditional rulers and youth presidents, among others.

Speaking during the engagement, Mr. Essien Ndueso stated that he was not at the event merely to assess what the Chairman had achieved since assuming office, but rather as someone who was already aware of the remarkable strides recorded under her leadership.

He further described the Chairman as a worthy complement to the Governor’s ARISE Agenda, noting that her leadership and interventions at the grassroots are contributing meaningfully to the actualisation of the Governor’s people centred vision for Akwa Ibom State.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Media Team, Mr. Enobong Nsimah, commended the Chairman for opening her administration to scrutiny and providing the team with the opportunity to see firsthand the projects and interventions being executed across the local government. He noted that the exercise had provided the media team with a clearer understanding of the administration’s development efforts and its impact on the people.

The Media Team commended the Chairman for the visible strides recorded by her administration and acknowledged the importance of documenting and communicating such interventions to the wider public.

In her remarks, Chairman Glory Ekah Effiong commended the leadership and members of the Media Team for their professional approach to the fact finding exercise, noting that constructive engagement between government and the media is essential to strengthening accountability and public confidence.

She particularly encouraged media practitioners to uphold healthy, responsible and constructive journalism, stressing that criticism remains an important component of democratic governance but must be distinguished from character assassination.

The Chairman noted that legitimate concerns and demands for improved governance can be effectively communicated through objective reporting, constructive engagement and informed advocacy without undermining the character and integrity of public officials who continue to work for the wellbeing of their constituents.

She reaffirmed her administration’s openness to scrutiny, constructive criticism and objective reporting, while emphasizing that its focus remains on delivering meaningful development, improving the wellbeing of the people and ensuring that the gains of the ARISE Agenda of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, are translated into tangible benefits at the grassroots.

The engagement further underscored the Chairman’s resolve to maintain an open, accountable and people oriented administration anchored on purposeful leadership, responsible governance and the replication of the development vision of the State Government across Ibeno Local Government Area.
