Police Issue Final Warning to Drug Dealers as Crackdown Intensifies in Akwa Ibom
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has intensified its intelligence-driven operations against dealers of Indian hemp and other illicit substances, warning offenders to cease operations or leave the state immediately.
The renewed enforcement, which spans multiple locations across Akwa Ibom State, has already led to several arrests and the recovery of large quantities of suspected prohibited drugs during coordinated raids on identified criminal hotspots according to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John in a release made available to NewsNectarNG on February 16.
The Command’s authority confirmed that suspects currently in custody will be charged to court after ongoing investigations are concluded.
Speaking on the development, Commissioner of Police Baba Mohammed Azare directed officers to sustain the crackdown on drug trafficking networks without interruption. He issued a firm warning to individuals involved in the illegal drug trade to stop immediately or relocate from the state.
The Command stressed that the spread of illicit drugs contributes significantly to cultism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes, while also weakening family and community structures. Police authorities reiterated their commitment to dismantling criminal drug networks and protecting young people from substance abuse and related criminal activities.
According to the Command, surveillance operations have been strengthened, intelligence gathering enhanced, and collaboration with other security agencies improved to ensure offenders are tracked, arrested, and prosecuted.
The Police also called on parents, traditional rulers, youth leaders, and community stakeholders to support law enforcement efforts by providing credible and timely information to help secure communities across the state.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law, order, and public safety, stating that Akwa Ibom is no longer a safe haven for drug barons and peddlers.
