Special Christmas Gift for Eket as Gov Eno Commissions Ultra-Modern Health Centre at Nduo Eduo

terminates non performing contracts for similar projects across state

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commissioned a well equipped ultra-modern primary health center for the people of Nduo Eduo, Eket Local Government Area.

While commissioning the centre, Monday December 29, 2025, the Governor called on community leaders and other stakeholders to ensure that the facility is properly maintained for the general good of the people.

“Please, come together to protect this facility. It is for your families and community. Patronize it; make the best use of it. Let it not be vandalized because of your lack of concern and care.”

Governor Eno who said the health centre was one of the projects under the one project per local government initiative through an electioneering promise he made to the Late Elder Ekwo and Nduo Eduo people, commended the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, and others who facilitated the project, for their commitment in ensuring its timely delivery.

He decried the inability of some local government areas to complete the first phase of the one project per local government initiative, and vowed to terminate the contracts if they failed to live up to expectation.

According to the Governor, “nine Local Government Areas are yet to have their allocated projects completed, two and a half years into this administration.” He, therefore, directed that the contracts for the affected projects be terminated for now.

The Governor frowned at the situation where people bidded and signed for projects contracts, only to fail to complete them according to specifications, but later request for cost variations.

He used the opportunity to tell the affected contractors and their guarantors that if they were found wanting after a project financial audit, they would be brought to book to account for the money issued to them.

Governor Eno also used the opportunity to enjoin the people of Eket to allow peace to reign by not disrupting the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway that has been mapped out to pass through the Stubb’s Creek.

In an overview of the project, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. John, commended the Governor for his commitment and exemplary leadership quality by defying the Christmas break to commission the people- oriented project for the benefit of the community.

He described the facility as a unique Christmas gift to the people of Eket, adding that it is fully equipped and designed with necessary modern facilities to provide quality services to the people of the area.

He highlighted the available facilities to include a resuscitation machine, a functional laboratory, fully equipped with anathology analyser, an accident and emergency room, an immunization room, a nutrition centre, a vaccines store and staff quarters, all fully staffed and powered with solar system.

He called on political elites to maximize Governor Eno’s investment in the health sector, including that of the ARISE Health Insurance Scheme, and appealed to the Chairman of Eket Local Government to provide adequate security to ensure the safety of the facility against vandals.

In his remark, the Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Hon. Akaninyene Tommy, appreciated Governor Eno for specially blessing the area with quality projects that have great significance for the grassroots.

In their separate goodwill messages, State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, Chief Assam Assam, Prof. Maurice Ekwo, Prof Etie Ben, Dr. Edikan Ackley, Chairman of the National Association of Government General and Dental practitioners, eulogized the Governor for his exceptional impact on the State health sector.

At the event were the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, Executive Assistant/Chief Delivery Advisor, Mr Aniefiok Johnson, members of the State executive council, local government chairmen, and other government functionaries.
