A’Ibom Head of Civil Service Backs Safety Audit Across MDAs
…as Gov Eno’s Aide moves to enforce compliance
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, Safety and Environment, Mrs. Jayne Ufot, has initiated strategic collaboration with the Office of the Head of Civil Service to strengthen occupational health and safety compliance across Ministries, Departments and Agencies in Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the Conference Room of the Office of the Head of Civil Service, the SSA revealed plans to commence a comprehensive safety review across all MDAs as part of its 2026 action plan.
Mrs. Ufot explained that the audit is designed to identify compliance gaps, improve workplace standards and ensure the overall health and safety of civil servants across the state.
She stressed that detailed reports of the exercise will be presented to Commissioners of affected ministries, while a consolidated report will be submitted to the Governor.
“The essence of this audit is to fill existing gaps and ensure that safety becomes a structured and measurable culture within government establishments,” she said.
Mrs. Ufot also disclosed that her office has already commenced a school-to-school outreach, beginning with Government Technical College, Ewet, where a Safety Club was established to promote safety culture among students.
Responding, the Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Elsie Peters, applauded the initiative and reaffirmed Governor Eno’s commitment to institutionalizing safety standards within the public service.
She noted that the establishment of the Occupational Health and Safety Department under the Office of the Head of Civil Service was the first of its kind since the creation of the State and reflects the administration’s commitment to institutionalize workplace safety.
Mrs. Peters described the proposed sensitisation and audit exercise as timely and necessary, stressing that increased awareness would help civil servants align more strictly with established safety procedures.
She assured the SSA of full collaboration, noting that a circular would be issued to formally notify all MDAs of the upcoming safety audit.
“I look forward to receiving reports and pictorial evidence from each ministry showing staff participation and compliance. It is time for everyone in the state to take safety seriously,” she said.
