Embrace the upcoming PVC Registration, EARCOM charges citizens
The Akwa Ibom State Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission, EARCOM, have called on citizens of the State to embrace the forthcoming voters’ registration exercise across the state and the country as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission. INEC so they can exercise their civic duties in the
2027 general elections.
EARCOM made the call through a member of the Governing Board of the Commission, Rev. Osondu Ahirika PhD, during the current affairs programme, Paper View, broadcast on Inspiration 105.9 FM Uyo on Monday.
Dr Ahirika said INEC citizens should brace up to embrace the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration starting August 18, targeting new voters who have reached the voting age of 28, those who have relocated and wish to transfer their polling units to their new abodes, and those who have since damaged or lost their permanent voter cards, PVCs.
He stressed the need for all eligible citizens to start the voter registration the moment it commences and not wait until the mad rush of deadlines before the expiration of the exercise to enable their participation in future elections.
Dr Ahirika further added in a chat with newsmen that Dr Dorothy Thompson-led EARCOM will soon commence a massive Elections sensitization campaign to ensure a responsive turnout for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise as well as educate the people in preparations for the 2027 general elections.
While calling on all eligible citizens and residents of the state to take advantage of the period to update their voter information ahead of the 2027 General elections, Dr Ahirika further disclosed that voter mobilisation, education and sensitization should be considered a priority by stakeholders including religious and traditional rulers, private sector employers and civil society groups so that voter apathy or indifference to political participation can be curbed among the people.
