Police Arrest Suspected Robber, Ogbonnaya Kalu, Recover Two Stolen Tricycles in Akwa Ibom
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a robbery syndicate and recovered two stolen tricycles in a renewed crackdown on violent crime in the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement on Friday made available to NewsNectarNG, saying that the arrest followed intelligence-led operations by officers of the command.
According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Ogbonnaya Kalu, was arrested on February 24, 2026, for allegedly belonging to a gang that specializes in attacking and dispossessing tricycle operators of their vehicles.
“One stolen tricycle with registration number JRC 139 QZ was recovered from the suspect at the point of arrest,” the statement said.
The police added that further follow-up operations led to the recovery of another stolen tricycle with registration number KNE 747 QJ, confirming the suspect’s alleged involvement in the criminal network.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the gang targets unsuspecting tricycle operators, using threats and violence to steal their tricycles, thereby depriving victims of their means of livelihood.
The command said efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate and recover additional stolen property.
The suspect is currently in police custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Baba Mohammed Azare, warned criminal elements to desist from illegal activities, stressing that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property.
The police also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing security operations.
