World Teachers’ Day: NUT Confers Leadership Award on Uduak Ikot

Says Her Leadership Reflects Gov Eno’s Arise Agenda

The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Esit Eket Chapter, has conferred the Leadership Award of Excellence on the Chairman of Esit Eket Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Uduak Ikemesit Ikot, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to educational development and exemplary leadership.

The presentation was made during a courtesy visit to her office at the Council Secretariat, Uquo, where she was ceremoniously dressed as a teacher, a symbolic gesture recognizing her humanitarian services and uncommon commitment to education-centered projects in Esit Eket.

Speaking during the award presentation, the NUT Chairman, Comrade U. S. Ndedde, commended Hon. Ikot for her unwavering commitment to human capital development, particularly in the area of education. He described her leadership style as being in line with that of the State Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, whom he lauded for prioritizing education and grassroots development.

“We are delighted with the progress you have made since your inauguration as Chairman of Esit Eket LGA., and your developmental strides in education and human capital development which is in line with our State Governor- Pastor Umo Eno’s Arise Agenda. Going further, we wish to align with you as facilitators in the system”, Ndedde added.

Ndedde noted very exceptionally the free distribution of educational materials to school children and teachers, the 7 weeks free holiday tech camp, and the recently free distribution of uniforms, sandals, and bags to pupils across public primary schools, describing it as actions that promotes a sense of belonging among learners, thus eluding inferiority complex among indigent students.

In her response, the Council Boss, Hon. Ikot, expressed gratitude to the union for the recognition and pledged to strengthen partnerships with teachers toward advancing the educational sector in Esit Eket.

Ikot revealed that more initiatives are underway, announcing that the distribution of free desks to schools will commence in the coming days, with particular attention also given to addressing the welfare needs of teachers.

World Teachers’ Day traces its origin to October 5, 1966, when a special intergovernmental conference, jointly organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Paris, France, adopted a recommendation concerning the status of teachers.
