Etteh Lists Achievements at Eket Federal Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting

…“He has done beyond the
ordinary,” Eyiboh says as stakeholders assess lawmaker’s performance

The member representing Eket/Onna/Esit-Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, has highlighted key achievements recorded in the past two years and 8 months, citing progress in employment facilitation, healthcare delivery, infrastructure development and legislative activities.

Etteh made the disclosure during a constituency stakeholders’ meeting held on Saturday March 14, 2026, at Villa Marina Hotel in Eket, where he briefed critical stakeholders and political leaders on his stewardship.

Addressing the gathering, the lawmaker described the meeting as a moment of reflection, accountability and renewed commitment to the development of the federal constituency.

He noted that despite the legal contestation that followed the 2023 election, his office remained focused on delivering representation to the people.

“In less than three years, we have recorded measurable progress in legislation, empowerment, healthcare, education and infrastructure. This progress has been driven by resilience and sustained by the support of our people,” Etteh said.

The lawmaker, who serves as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on University Education and Chairman of an ad-hoc committee investigating alleged mismanagement of oil spill clean-up funds in the Niger Delta, said he has used his positions to draw attention to the developmental needs of the constituency.

Etteh disclosed that several constituents have secured federal appointments and employment opportunities in institutions such as the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Federal College of Education Ididep and various universities across the country, as well as in agencies like the Nigeria Police and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.

According to him, relief materials were also distributed to communities affected by disasters, including victims of ocean surge in Ibeno and flood-affected residents through the National Emergency Management Agency.

On infrastructure, the federal lawmaker listed projects including classroom blocks in schools in Eket and Ibeno, installation of transformers in communities, motorised boreholes, ICT centres and solar-powered street lights in several locations.

He also highlighted healthcare interventions, noting that a 12-day free medical and surgical outreach in 2024 attended to more than 8,700 residents and performed over 800 surgeries, while another outreach in 2025 provided medical services to more than 1,500 people.

In the area of youth and women development, Etteh said over 50 youths were trained in Health, Safety and Environment as well as oil and gas maintenance services, while more than 100 rural women were empowered in fish and snail farming.

He added that education support programmes included scholarships, payment of tuition for students and the distribution of 1,000 JAMB examination PINs to candidates from the constituency.

Etteh further revealed that two establishment bills he sponsored , the Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery, Eket, and the Petroleum Training Institute, Ibeno, have passed third readings in the House of Representatives and are awaiting concurrence in the Senate.

Earlier, former Minister and leader of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, Rt Hon. Chief Nduese Essien, who chaired the meeting, said the briefing provided an opportunity for constituents to hear directly from their representative and assess his performance.

Also speaking, former member of the House of Representatives and Special Adviser to the Senate President, Rt Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, said Etteh’s presentation reflected genuine legislative work, describing his performance as “beyond the ordinary.”

A former National Assembly Member, Rt Hon. Deaconess Owoidighe Ekpoattai acknowledged the efforts of the lawmaker.
She said:
“He has done well and we thank him. But as we commend him, we must also encourage him to do more and allow lawmakers to return for a second term for better performance.”

A former MD of the NDDC Chief Bassey Dan Abia Snr had this to say,
“I cannot score you because I may be biased, but from what I have heard from other credible speakers here today, I have seen sincerity and frankness. You have done well.”

On his part, a former Chairman of Eket LGA and a stakeholder of the APC, Chief Aniekan Akpan said;
“After Hon. Okpolupm Etteh reeled out his report of performance and I heard the assessment by other leaders, I have no option but to accept the verdict. You have done well.”
