‘Let Our Conducts Be Ethical’, Eunice Thomas Urges C’tee Members
Members of the newly inaugurated Committee on Land and Water Resources of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) have been tasked with ensuring that their actions and conduct at all times, align with the ethics and mandate for which the Commission was established.
The charge was handed down this week by Dr. Eunice Thomas at the inaugural meeting of the Committee. Dr. Thomas heads the Federal Character Commission Committee on Lands and Water Resources.
The Committee, she stated will be committed in ensuring fair and equitable distribution of public and socio-economic amenities, as well as, infrastructural facilities of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) under its purview.
To achieve the set goals, transparency and accountability are expected of members in the discharge of their roles and responsibilities, she emphasized.
Calling on continued support and cooperation for the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Ayo Hulayat Omidiran in order to fulfill the mandate of the FCC as directed by President Bola Tinubu, Dr. Thomas reminded that the Commission is seen and regarded as the conscience of Nigeria.
Established by Act 34 of 1996 and enshrined in the 1999 Constitution to promote fairness, equity, and national unity, its core mandate is to ensure equitable representation in government employment, projects, and socio-economic amenities across Nigeria’s diverse ethnic and regional groups, preventing the dominance of any single group.
Members of the newly inaugurated Committee are; Isah Anas – Katsina, North West, Isah Jibrin Bida – Niger, North Central, Hon. Victor Ikeji – Abia, South East, Kayode Oladele Esq – Ogun, South West, while Ibrahim Abdu Mairiga – Gombe, North East, and Eunice Thomas – Akwa Ibom, South South, are Vice Chairman and Chairperson respectively. Gidado Abubakar is the committee clerk.
