Senator Ekong Sampson Congratulates Nsibiet John on Election as Chairman, NUJ, Akwa Ibom State
…top lawmaker causes a stir, votes at NUJ election
The Senator representing Akwa Ibom South in the National Assembly, Senator Ekong Sampson has congratulated Comrade Nsibiet John, on his election as the Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council. Mr. John is the immediate past Chairman of the Federated Chapel, where Senator Sampson is a member.
In a well attended Union election held at the newly commissioned Patience Umo Eno Press Centre, Uyo, earlier today, Nsibiet John, publisher of The Ink Newspaper, polled a total of 555 votes to emerge winner in a landslide against his closest opponent, Nene Affia of the State Information Chapel, who had 92 votes.
Sampson, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals, had caused a stir when he arrived at the NUJ election venue, as members could not contain their excitement at his high profile presence. The Lawmaker was later seen chatting warmly with colleagues in the Fourth Estate, before going on to cast his vote.
In a congratulatory message to Mr. John following the announcement of results, Senator Ekong Sampson, himself, a veteran in the journalism profession with experience spanning since 1985, hailed the new Chairman on his electoral victory. He also felicitated with other members of the newly elected EXCO. The Lawmaker expressed optimism that the Nsibiet John-led new leadership of the NUJ in Akwa Ibom State will bring their wealth of experience and service to bear, to take the Union to greater heights.
Also elected were Comrade Margaret Moore of the State Info Chapel, as Vice Chairman and Comrade Nsikak Esenowo, also of the State Info Chapel, as Secretary. Others were Comrade Udeme Hosea, Treasurer, Kufre Emmanuel, Financial Secretary, Uduak Akai, Assistant Secretary, and Dianime Uko, as Auditor. From the Press Centre, Senator Sampson breezed into Eket to join Governor Umo Eno in the Eket Federal Constituency leg of the statewide ARISE Town Square meeting.
