DR. NSIDIBE AKATA REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO EFFECTIVE REPRESENTATION, HIGHLIGHTS KEY ACHIEVEMENTS
The Member representing Eket Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Dr. Nsidibe Inyang Akata, has reiterated his commitment to delivering on the mandate of the people through impactful and people-centered representation.
Dr. Akata, stated this during an interactive session with journalists on Monday at the Eket Chairman’s Lodge, where he highlighted ongoing efforts and achievements recorded so far. He expressed deep appreciation to the media community for their sustained partnership and support toward the progress of Eket State and Akwa Ibom at large, reeling out a number of impactful projects and interventions, including the construction of a three-classroom block and water project in Iko Ekid; a 400-capacity ultra-modern civic centre with a solar-powered borehole in Okon-Eket, an upgrade from its initial 180-capacity design; payment of health insurance premiums for over 100 elderly persons; and the disbursement of monthly stipends of ₦50,000 to selected beneficiaries across the three geopolitical zones of the constituency.
He also cited the provision of a solar-powered borehole at the Health Centre in Iko Ekid. He further disclosed that he has supported women across communities, including the selection of 10 women per family in his village and numerous market women, who benefited from business grants of ₦200,000 and ₦100,000 respectively. He added that ₦6 million has been earmarked for student grants, while assuring that the welfare of members of the media community would receive attention in due course.
On legislative interventions, the lawmaker listed key motions he has sponsored, including the motion for the reactivation of the Qua River Hotel, as well as advocacy for the engagement of Traditional Birth Attendants in public health enlightenment campaigns aimed at reducing child mortality. He reiterated that the bill for the conversion of the College of Education, Afaha Nsit into a University of Education remains one of his landmark legislative achievements.
The Chairman of the Eket Federal Constituency Media Professionals, Comrade Itoro Etti, commended Dr. Nsidibe Akata for fostering a cordial relationship with stakeholders and the media, noting that it has helped shape a positive governance narrative.
Etti particularly praised the lawmaker’s sponsorship of the bill to convert the College of Education, Afaha Nsit into a degree-awarding institution, lauding the appointment of Mr. Godwin Peter as his aide on Media, while affirming the lawmaker’s consistency and impact.
Also speaking, the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman of Eket, Chief Idim Edemekong, applauded Dr. Akata’s performance, noting that he has not only met expectations but has earned the confidence of stakeholders across the constituency. “The vote of confidence reposed in him is a testament to the fact that much is expected, and he has continued to rise to the occasion,” He said.
In his remarks, Comrade Nsibiet John, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, described the lawmaker as hardworking and efficient, noting that he has diligently protected the mandate entrusted to him by his people.
In separate remarks, Special Assistants to the Governor on Media, Mr. Mfon Bassey and Dr. Eneh John, alongside Chief Paragon Emmanuel Mbong, Mr. Joseph Ekong, and Mr. Daniel Edon, unanimously called for strengthened support for Dr. Akata’s second-term bid, describing his performance as commendable and worthy of continuity.
